Fund Drive Helps Volunteers Purchase New Thermal Imaging Camera

Thursday, May 10, 2012  Thanks to residential and business support of our current 2012 Fund Drive, the Washington Volunteer Firemen purchased a new Thermal Imaging Camera which will be installed in Engine 402 replacing an older model that is currently out of service and in need of repair. "Without the generosity of our community this valuable firefighting tool manufactured by the Bullard Corporation in the USA valued at nearly $12,000 could not have been purchased," said Company President Joe Goss.

The 2012 Fund Drive is still on-going. Additional donations are appreciated.

What is a Thermal Imaging Camera you ask?

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A Thermal Imaging Camera (colloquially known as a TIC) is a type of thermographic camera used in firefighting. By rendering infrared radiation as visible light, such cameras allow firefighters to see areas of heat through smoke, darkness, or heat-permeable barriers. Thermal imaging cameras are typically handheld, but may be helmet-mounted. They are constructed using heat- and water-resistant housings, and ruggedized to withstand the hazards of fireground operations. Thermal imaging cameras pick up body heat, and they are normally used in cases where people are trapped where rescuers cannot find them.
